The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA. They’ve won 16 NBA championships, the second-most of any NBA team, just behind the Boston Celtics. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with hometown rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers. Fans of the Lakers can get their tickets to the Staples Center from Golden Tickets.
The franchise began in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers. Initially a member of the National Basketball League (NBL), the Lakers won the 1948 NBL Championship before joining the rival Basketball Association of America, where they would win 5 championships, led by star George Mikan. After struggling in the late 1950s, they relocated to Los Angeles in 1960 and joined the NBA.
Los Angeles Lakers Ticket Holders have been fortunate enough to witness several basketball legends on the team’s roster over the decades. In the 1960s Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, led the Lakers to the NBA Finals 6 times, where they lost to the Celtics each time, beginning the long and storied rivalry between the teams.
In 1968, the Lakers acquired the larger-than-life Wilt Chamberlain who helped bring home the team’s sixth NBA title. In 1972, another iconic player, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and his dangerous hook shot joined the team.
The 1980’s saw the arrival of superstar Magic Johnson. The team of this era was nicknamed “Showtime” due to the team’s amazing on-court abilities. Los Angeles Lakers Ticket Holders of that time saw the team win 5 NBA Championships in less than 10 years, thanks to Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and coach Pat Riley. After Abdul-Jabbar and Johnson retired, the team struggled, before acquiring a dynamic duo in Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant in 1996. The team won 3 consecutive NBA Championships between 2000 and 2002, and back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
